Your Voice Workshop
Our voices reveal much about our attitudes, class, culture, confidence level, beliefs, feelings, sexuality etc., without a word spoken! A habitual catch in the throat, a stutter, unnatural pressure in the nose or on the larynx...such entanglements indicate that a voice, and therefore a person, is not yet fully free, no matter what she might like you to believe.
What is a "free voice"? One that's able to travel through the Mind-Body of a speaker without being impeded by physical, emotional or intellectual blocks.
A 'free voice' expresses the inner truth of a person. From a psychological point of view, we call these voices "authentic." The sound has a radiance about it. A spontaneity. Range. Liveliness! The inner world of the speaker is in congruence with her outer expression. This makes her more trustworthy to listeners.
Part 1 ~ The Techniques: We begin with non-threatening exercises to improve breath support, relaxation, spinal alignment, resonance and articulation.
Part 2 ~ The Creative: Participants then chose material they want to work with in a presentation to the group. These include: poetry, stories, business proposals, teaching classes, political speeches, pitches for films, songs, acting improvisations, etc.
We use your material to teach you basic performance skills ~ tailoring the process to your specific needs which you will be able to apply to any kind of situation in future.
Even if you are not going to get up in front of the public ever again, the beauty of vocalizing in front of others is that it's the ultimate challenge! If the thought frightens you, rest assured this playful and informative workshop helps you work through that fear and encourages your progress toward fulfilling your potential for vocal and psychological freedom!
• Note: This is a one day, 6 - 8 hour workshop. At the beginning of all workshops and classes, participants commit to non-judgment of self and others as part of creating an emotionally safe atmosphere for all. (No more than 12 participants unless by special arrangement.)
